No president ever entered office to send a less prepared military to war than did Abraham Lincoln. After 1/3 of the West Point trained officers "went south" after Fort Sumter, Lincoln had to endure inexperience, infuriating "seniority" issues, incompetency, supply nightmares, massive egos, political "agendas" and simply "bad luck" that constantly compelled him to take a firm yet brilliant hand in finally finding generals who could fight and win.
From a strange courtship of two people of different classes, temperaments and backgrounds (North and South), Abraham and Mary Todd endured a life together of near poverty, tragic deaths of children, divided families, confining fame and the bloodiest war in American history. Despite their differences, they held hands in the presidential box at Ford's Theatre, looking forward to a peaceful, well-deserved retirement.
What series of incredible events, decisions, accidents and occurrences transpired to propell a poor yet brilliant and ambitious farm-boy to the presidency. Come hear amazing true accounts the strange, winding road that led Abraham Lincoln to the White House.

Cousins born to wealth, Franklin and Eleanor transformed a doomed love into a marriage that became an alliance of power early on; Franklin to seek political fame, Eleanor to grow personally and intellectually and to dedicate herself to serving the downtrodden of the world. They both had reserves of strength that not only helped them through the dark days of political defeat, infidelity and polio, but also helped our nation endure the trauma of a depression, a titanic world war and its aftermath.
The indispensable and courageous Washington lost 6 out of 11 battles he commanded. How then did he lead his small, often un-paid, ill-supplied and, occasionally mutinous army of volunteers to eventual victory at Yorktown?
Born a shy, insecure and unassertive girl "imprisoned" by rigid social, racial, gender and political restraints, Eleanor discovered and developed her natural abilities and strengths. Through personal loss, a difficult marriage and stifling family and political obligations, Eleanor grew to become one of the world's champions of international peace, racial equality and women's rights.
This brilliant, strange, deeply religious, secretive and stern "right arm" of Robert E. Lee bewildered even his own officers and "foot cavalry" when out-marching and counter-marching the larger Union forces arrayed against him. The famous "Valley Campaign" of 1862 was but one of Jackson's efforts to crush -- not just force north -- the Federal armies invading his beloved Virginia. What if Lee and Davis allowed Jackson to move north in 1861 ...or from the Valley in 1862... or following Fredricksburg that winter... to make the North regret ever having moved against the south? The "what ifs" of what might have been always lead to lively discussions following this presentation!

Hero of the "lost cause" Robert E. Lee was loved and admired by generations of southerners and northerners alike. However, closer scrutiny has led several military historians to conclude that Lee made costly strategic and tactical decisions that cost the Confederacy it's independence.
